Sasawane is a quiet village, which is exactly the point. But Alibag as a region has a surprising amount worth seeing — coastal forts, temples, beaches and natural spaces all within day-trip distance from Sachu's Resort.
Kolaba Fort (Alibag Fort) — 20–25 min
The most iconic sight in Alibag. Sits on a small island off Alibag beach, accessible on foot at low tide. Built in the late 17th century, maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Check tide timings before visiting — aim to arrive 1–2 hours before low tide.
Karmarkar Shilpalaya — 10–15 min walk
An underrated gem. A small sculpture museum in a converted heritage home in Sasawane village — essentially walking distance from the resort. Displays the life's work of sculptor Vinayak Pandurang Karmarkar. Worth an hour of your time.
Mandwa Beach and Jetty — 10 min
Where the ferry from Mumbai arrives. Worth spending 30 minutes walking the beach before or after your ferry trip.
Kankeshwar Temple — 30–40 min
A hilltop Shiva temple about 13 km from Alibag town, at roughly 900 feet altitude. The climb is manageable and the views from the top are excellent. Best visited early morning.
Awas Beach and Varsoli Beach — 15–25 min
Two natural beaches south of Alibag town. Good for a late afternoon drive and walk. Less developed than Nagaon.
Nagaon Beach — 25–30 min
Alibag's most popular beach. More developed, more crowded on weekends. Good if you want water sports or a busier beach scene.
Khanderi Fort — ~45–50 min
An island fort about 3 km into the sea from Thal beach. Requires arranging a local boat from Thal. Less visited than Kolaba and more adventurous.
